Wholesale pricing for paper edge protectors is quoted per meter, because the board is produced continuously and cut at the end. That makes it easy to compare suppliers on a like for like basis: same wall, same leg, same paper grade, price per meter. Most of the apparent price differences disappear once those four are fixed.
Wholesale pricing data
| Quantity | Basis | Note |
|---|
| Sample | Per meter, list price | 3-5 working days |
| Pallet | Per meter, tier 1 | One size, labelled bundles |
| Container, one size | Per meter, tier 2 | Best rate per meter |
| Container, mixed sizes | Per meter, container rate | Range without a mixed surcharge |
| Annual contract | Fixed per meter | Volume commitment, scheduled shipments |
What moves the price per meter
Fibre content is the largest factor, so wall thickness drives cost more than leg width does. A 5 mm wall uses roughly two thirds more board than a 3 mm wall on the same leg, and that shows directly in the price.
Paper grade is the second factor, with recycled board cheaper than virgin. Leg width adds cost in proportion to the board consumed, which is why a 100 mm leg is a different price bracket from a 40 mm leg rather than a small increment.
Per meter against per piece
Per meter is the honest unit for a continuous product and it lets a buyer convert to per piece by dividing by the cut length. Suppliers who quote per piece without stating the length make comparison impossible.
For a distributor, the conversion matters twice: the purchase is in meters, the sale is in bundles, and the margin is set by how the bundle count is rounded. A bundle of 50 pieces at 1,200 mm is 60 meters, which is the number that should appear on the price list.
Volume tiers, and where they stop
Tiers are normally set at sample quantity, pallet quantity and container quantity. There is usually no further discount beyond a full container of a single size, because the production cost does not fall further and the freight is already at its most efficient.
Mixing sizes inside a container is priced at the container rate rather than the single size rate, which is the usual arrangement for a distributor who needs a range rather than a truckload of one profile.
Questions buyers ask before ordering
Do you quote per meter or per piece?
Per meter, and the bundle count converts it to pieces at the cut length.
What discount for a container?
A container rate applies, and mixing sizes does not attract a surcharge at container quantity.
Is recycled board cheaper?
Yes, at the same wall. It is slightly less stiff, so a wall step may be needed.
Can a distributor get a price list?
Yes, with the meter per bundle stated so the resale price can be set correctly.
What is the minimum for wholesale terms?
3,000 meters per size, and an annual agreement for fixed pricing.
