Paper Edge Protector Factory: What to Look At on a Visit

PRODUCT DETAILS

A factory visit or a video audit is worth more than a catalogue, because edge protection is a simple product and the differences between suppliers are all in the process: how the plies are bonded, how the fold is set, how the cut is made and how the bundles are stacked. Those four things are visible in twenty minutes.

Four things to look at

The lamination line. Plies should be evenly glued and the board should be flat, not warped. A warped board produces a profile that rocks on the corner and concentrates load.

The fold. Look at the inside radius and the outside crease. A crease that has cracked shows as a light line on the outer surface, and that is where the profile will fail.

The cut. Ends should be square and clean, with no torn plies. A ragged cut is the start of a tear.

The bundle stack. Bundles stored flat, off the floor, wrapped. Bundles stored on a damp floor or leaning against a wall will be soft on one face.

What a factory can show you that a trader cannot

A factory can show the board before folding, the ply count, and the trim from a cut. Those are the actual answers to a specification question. A trader can only repeat what the factory told them.

If a visit is not possible, ask for a short video of the lamination, the fold and the cut on the size you are ordering. It is a reasonable request and the response tells you a lot about how the supplier works.

Our plant, in short

The plant is in Shandong, China, with a combined capacity of 200,000 meters per day across the lines, producing kraft L, U, V and ring profiles from 2.5 mm to 8 mm wall. We are an export packaging manufacturer and ship to buyers who pack furniture, panels, glass, steel and equipment.

Visits are welcome with notice. If you would rather audit remotely, ask for the video and the current packing photos of the size you are considering.
