A paper angle board is described by four numbers: leg A, leg B, wall thickness and length, plus the fold angle where it is not 90 degrees. Suppliers write them in different orders, which is the source of most specification mistakes. The convention we quote is legs first in millimetres, then wall, then length, with the angle stated separately.
Dimension reference
| Dimension | Measured | Typical range |
|---|
| Leg A | Flat, fold line to edge | 25-100 mm |
| Leg B | Flat, fold line to edge | 25-100 mm, equal or unequal |
| Wall | Across the flat board | 2.5-8 mm |
| Length | End to end | 300-6,000 mm |
| Angle | Between the two legs | 60, 90, 120 degrees |
| Opened width | Across all faces | 260 mm maximum |
The convention, and why it matters
A board written as 50 x 50 x 5 x 1,200 is two 50 mm legs, a 5 mm wall and a 1,200 mm length. Written as 50 x 5 x 50 the same board means something different to a supplier who expects wall in the middle. State the units and the order once, at the top of the enquiry, and the ambiguity disappears.
Where the legs are unequal the order matters more, because 80 x 40 and 40 x 80 describe the same board fitted two different ways. State which leg goes on the working face.
Measuring a folded profile
Leg width is measured on the flat, from the fold line to the outer edge. Wall thickness is measured across the flat laminated board, not across the folded corner, which reads thicker because the material doubles at the fold.
Length is end to end. The opened width, the distance across all faces of a folded profile, is capped at 260 mm on our lines, and that number is a property of the folding equipment rather than a product choice.
Tolerances worth stating
Every dimension carries a working tolerance. For most packing work the tolerance is not critical; for machine fed lines it is, and the equipment tolerance should be included in the enquiry rather than assumed.
A drawing is the safest format for a new size. A sketch with three arrows and the angle is enough: leg, leg, wall, length. Where a dimension is internal, mark it as internal, because the fold consumes material and a flat size derived from an internal size will not match.
Questions buyers ask before ordering
Do you measure wall at the corner or on the flat?
On the flat board. The folded corner reads thicker because of the fold.
What order should I write the dimensions in?
Legs first, then wall, then length, with the angle stated separately and the units given once.
What is the maximum size?
100 mm legs, 8 mm wall, 6,000 mm length, 260 mm opened width across three faces.
Can I send a sketch instead of a drawing?
Yes. Leg, leg, wall, length and angle is enough for a plain profile.
Are dimensions in inches acceptable?
Yes, and we convert, but state the unit clearly to avoid a factor of 25 error.
