A custom size edge protector is specified by four numbers and two choices: leg A, leg B, wall thickness and cut length, plus the fold angle and the surface. Everything within those limits is made to order without tooling. Only features such as slots, notches or latch patterns need a die, and that is the point where cost and lead time change.
Custom size data
| Variable | What to send | Limit |
|---|
| Leg A and B | mm, flat measurement | 25-100 mm each |
| Wall | mm | 2.5-8 mm |
| Length | mm, end to end | 300-6000 mm |
| Angle | degrees | 60, 90, 120 |
| Opened width | mm across three faces | 260 mm maximum |
| Slots or notches | Drawing with position | Requires a die |
The four numbers we need
Leg A and leg B, measured on the flat from the fold to the outer edge. Wall thickness across the flat board. Cut length from end to end. Fold angle, normally 90 degrees, with 60 and 120 available.
If the drawing gives an internal dimension, say so, because the fold consumes material and an internal size translates to a slightly different flat size. A drawing with external dimensions and a stated angle is enough for us to work from.
The limit that catches people out
A folded profile opens to a maximum of 260 mm across three faces. A design that needs more wrap than that cannot be made as one piece, and the honest answer is two profiles rather than a stretched one. Designs that ignore this arrive as a sample request that cannot be quoted.
The second limit is the fold itself. A very tight radius on a heavy wall cracks the outer ply, so heavy walls are quoted with a slightly larger radius. That is a production constraint, not a preference.
Tooling, samples and lead time
A plain profile needs no die. Slots, notches, latch patterns or a printed panel need a one-off die, which is quoted separately and is charged once. After that the piece price is normal.
Samples of a plain custom profile take 3-5 working days. A die-cut feature adds the die lead time to that. Production runs 7-15 working days after approval, and the first delivery is usually a trial quantity before a container order.
Questions buyers ask before ordering
Do I need a die for a custom size?
No. Leg width, wall, length and angle are made without tooling. Only slots, notches and latch patterns need a die.
What if my design is wider than 260 mm?
It cannot be one folded piece. We would quote two profiles back to back instead.
Can legs be unequal?
Yes, for example 80 mm by 40 mm, which is common for panel work.
How fast is a sample?
3-5 working days for a plain profile, plus die lead time where a feature is cut.
What is the minimum order?
3,000 meters, higher for a die-cut feature because the die has to be amortised.
