Custom Length: Cutting to the Pack, Not to the Pallet

PRODUCT DETAILS

A bendable protector is cut to the length of the edge it covers, and the notch is placed where the corner falls. That means length and notch position are one specification, not two: a length cut 20 mm short moves every notch on the piece. Ordering to the pack drawing is the only way to get both right.

Length is measured along the edge, not the pack

The figure to send is the developed length: the distance along the edge plus the distance round the corner, measured flat before folding. A 90 degree corner on an 18 mm panel adds a short arc, not zero.

Where the pack has two corners on one piece, the length is the sum of the three runs. Sending the overall pack dimension instead is the most common cause of a short delivery.

Short pieces, long pieces and freight

Lengths up to 6,000 mm are made in one piece. Beyond that the edge is covered in two lengths with a joint, which is normal on long panels and should be drawn on purpose rather than discovered.

Short pieces below about 300 mm are cut from the same board but cost more per meter, because there are more cuts and the bundle holds less. Where the pack allows, a length that covers two edges is cheaper than two short pieces.

Tolerance, squareness and the last 5 mm

Cut tolerance is a millimetre or two on the length, which is fine where the protector runs past the corner and coarse where two pieces have to meet.

Where pieces meet, order them slightly long and trim on site. A piece cut exactly to the joint length will show a gap as soon as the panel is not perfectly square.

Questions buyers ask before ordering

Do I send the pack size or the developed length?
The developed length, measured flat along the edge and round the corner.

What is the longest single piece?
6,000 mm. Longer edges take two pieces with a planned joint.

Are short pieces more expensive per meter?
Yes, because there are more cuts and the bundle holds less board.

What is the cut tolerance?
A millimetre or two, which is why pieces that meet should be ordered slightly long.

Can you place notches to a drawing?
Yes, notch position is part of the order.
