Bulk Paper Edge Protectors: Filling a Container Properly

PRODUCT DETAILS

Buying edge protectors in bulk is a volume problem, not a weight problem. The product is light and bulky, so a container fills long before it reaches its weight limit, and the cost per meter landed depends on how well the bundles nest. Two buyers ordering the same meters can pay noticeably different freight.

Volume, not tonnage

Because the load is volume limited, the useful measure is cubic meters per thousand meters of board. A short cut piece packs differently from a long board, and a mix of lengths packs better than a single length because the gaps can be filled.

That means the cheapest configuration is rarely a container of one size. A mixed container of two or three lengths, nested so the short bundles fill the gaps left by the long ones, usually carries more meters than a single size load.

Bundle counts and counting at destination

Bulk orders are counted in bundles, not pieces, at the destination warehouse. So the bundle count has to be right, and it has to be marked. A container that arrives with an unstated bundle count takes a day to reconcile and always ends in a credit note negotiation.

The packing list should state, for each size, the length, pieces per bundle, number of bundles and total meters. That single table removes almost all of the disputes that arise on bulk orders.

Planning the reorder

Bulk orders arrive every few months, so the specification must be repeatable. Keep a reference sample from the first container and check the new delivery against it, particularly for wall thickness and fold, because a change in paper supply can shift both.

If the volume is regular, an annual agreement with scheduled shipments holds the price and avoids the reorder cycle entirely. That is usually worth more than a small discount on a single container.

Questions buyers ask before ordering

How many meters fit in a container?
It depends on length and bundle nesting. Send the sizes and we will calculate the load rather than estimate it.

Can I mix sizes in a bulk order?
Yes, and a mix usually improves utilisation because short bundles fill the gaps.

How is a bulk order counted?
In bundles. The packing list states length, pieces per bundle, bundles and total meters per size.

Can I keep a reference sample?
Yes, and we recommend checking each delivery against it for wall and fold.

Is there a price advantage to an annual schedule?
Yes, a fixed price and no reorder cycle, which is usually worth more than a one-off discount.
