The bendable feature is made by a notching station, not by a different material. Board is laminated, slit, folded into a U and then cut and notched to the pack drawing. Understanding that order explains most of the questions buyers ask about angle accuracy, minimum quantity and why a notched part costs more than a straight one.
From roll to notched length
Kraft roll paper is laminated into board of the specified wall, slit to the developed width, then folded into a U on a forming line. This is the part of the process that runs continuously, at up to 200,000 meters a day.
The notching station comes after forming. It cuts the V that allows the fold and cuts the length. That is a slower, drawing-driven step, which is why notched and pre-bent work has a minimum of 500 meters per size while straight lengths do not.
Printing, where it is specified, is inline before forming, so a printed protector is printed flat and then folded. Artwork therefore has to allow for the fold line.
Specification at a glance
The table is the production sequence as it affects an order, with the tolerance each step contributes.
| Step | What it sets | Tolerance |
|---|
| Laminating | Wall thickness | Nominal, +/- |
| Slitting | Developed width | 1-2 mm |
| Forming | Inside width and legs | 1-2 mm |
| Notching | Angle and position | Set by the notch |
| Cutting | Length | 1-2 mm |
| Printing | Artwork position | Allows for the fold |
What a factory visit would show
You would see roll stock, a laminating line, a forming line running U profile continuously, and a separate notching and cutting area where the pack-specific work happens.
The interesting number is not the daily output, which is a straight-line figure, but the changeover time between sizes. That is what decides whether a 500 meter order is economic.
Quality checks on this product are dimensional: wall, inside width, leg, length and notch position. There is no certification to show for a paper profile, and any supplier who offers one is describing something else.
What to send with an enquiry
The panel thickness or a sample, the angle if it is not 90 degrees, the developed length, the monthly volume and the destination port. With those five we can quote without a second exchange.
Where the pack is new, send a photograph of the corner. It answers the question the drawing usually leaves open: which face the protector is supposed to sit against.
Questions buyers ask before ordering
What is the daily output?
Up to 200,000 meters a day on straight profile. Notched work runs slower.
What is the minimum order?
500 meters per size for notched or pre-bent work.
Do you print before or after folding?
Before. Artwork has to allow for the fold line.
What certification do you provide?
Dimensional inspection. A paper profile carries no product certification.
How fast can a new size be quoted?
From panel thickness, angle, developed length, volume and port, in one exchange.
Send the panel thickness, the corner angle and the pack drawing to mona@hengnicepacking.com and we will quote the protector that fits.
